Felixstowe resident Linda Houseley has been presented with an electric car as part of a special competition run by the East of England Co-op as part of its 150th Anniversary celebrations.

Over the summer months, the East of England Co-op held a prize draw competition, handing out scratch cards to customers shopping in its stores.  More than 200,000 prizes were up for grabs, in partnership with its suppliers, including the top prize of a Toyota Yaris hybrid eco car. Promoted across social media, in stores and in local media, a total of 12,000 competition entries were received and the competition was supported by local sponsors including Marriage’s, Marybelle, Taste of Suffolk and Fairfields Farm.

On 23rd August a winner was drawn and Linda Houseley from Felixstowe was announced as the lucky winner. Linda received the keys to her new car in a special presentation at the East of England Co-op’s Hamilton Road, Felixstowe branch on Thursday September 6th 2018. East of England Co-op Joint Chief Executive, Roger Grosvenor presented the keys to Linda who took away her new eco car that day.

To win a car is absolutely wonderful - especially as I have been thinking of changing my car for something more eco-friendly.  I have read the Toyota brochure from cover to cover and this model has many features I didn’t even know existed. Christmas has come early in my house!”

Roger Grosvenor said: “I was absolutely delighted to be able to present Linda with such a brilliant prize.  The competition was a fantastic way for us to mark our special anniversary, and to thank our customers for their loyalty and support. We had such a great response to the campaign and gave away thousands of prizes, thanks to the generosity of our suppliers.  To have such an impressive top prize was extremely exciting and I hope Linda will enjoy many miles of happy eco-driving in her new car.”

A number of events and activities have been held to mark the East of England Co-op’s landmark 150th year.
