Commuters and visitors to Ipswich will soon be able to shop in a new food retail store at Ipswich Station as the East of England Co-op marks an important milestone in its ambitious growth plans.

The East of England Co-op has announced that work will begin and contractors on site from Monday 10 March 2025 at its new food store. The store will be located at the main entrance to the train station, an ideal spot for the local community and commuters, and is expected to open in early summer.

Operating over 120 Food stores across Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, the East of England Co-op is independent of the national Co-op Group and other regional co-operatives.

The new 1,500 sq. ft. Ipswich Station store will be a first for the East of England Co-op with a completely paperless and fully cashless system, embracing a seamless, modern shopping experience.

Customers can enjoy the convenience of Barista Coffee-to-Go machines, a fresh in-store bakery, and a Fwip Ice Cream dispenser. As part of a commitment to responsible retailing, the store will also limit alcohol sales on home and away match days in agreement with Suffolk Police.

Andy Rigby, Acting Chief Executive Officer for the East of England Co-op, said: “We’re thrilled to begin work on our new store at Ipswich Train Station, right in the heart of the town. This location is a fantastic opportunity for us to serve commuters, visitors, and the local community with the convenience and quality they expect from the East of England Co-op.

“Being part of the hustle and bustle of Ipswich town centre is something we’re really looking forward to, and we can’t wait to open our doors in summer and become a key part of this vibrant area.

“At the East of England Co-op, it’s important to us to provide our customers with exciting products, exceptional customer service as well as access to our community outreach programmes.”
