Hamford Primary go bananas for Fairtrade Fortnight
Pupils at Hamford Primary Academy in Frinton on Sea had a special visit from our community engagement team this week, where things went a little ‘bananas’ in celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Fairtrade Fortnight (29 February – 13 March) shines a spotlight on the positive impact of buying Fairtrade. An initiative very close to our hearts, we were one of the first UK retailers to establish the sale of fairly traded goods, before the Fairtrade mark was even introduced.
We provided energy boosting bananas for the schools breakfast club, and taught the children all about Fairtrade in a special assembly.
Jacquie Chaplin, Year 3/4 Teacher at Hamford Primary Academy said: “It’s so important that children understand Fairtrade along with where there food comes from. The East of England Co-op encouraged the children to look out for Fairtrade items, explained how the bananas get from the farm to the shop and explained how the farmers benefit.”
