The community in Ely came together for the dedication service of the East of England Co-op Funeral Services’ Chapel of Rest on Prickwillow Road on Thursday 9 February.

The dedication was led by Reverend Chris Hill, Priest in Charge at St Mary’s Church in Ely. Deputy Mayor, Richard Hobbs was also in attendance.

Other guests included those from local care homes, hospices, representatives from charities, neighbours and other members of the funeral profession. Visitors took the opportunity to talk to the local funeral team over tea and cake at the warm and welcoming premises. They were also able to chat with the bereavement support counsellors and meet the civil celebrant.

Funeral Arranger, Claire Needs, said: “We’re so proud to offer support to people in Ely when they need it most and it was lovely to see so many friendly faces at the dedication service. We’re looking forward to playing a central role in the community for years to come.”

If you were unable to make it to the open day, the Ely funeral branch operates an ‘open door’ policy. Everyone is welcome to call in for expert advice on funeral arrangements, guidance on monumental masonry, bereavement support, pre-paid funeral plans – or simply to say hello.

Local families have been putting their trust in the East of England Co-op Funeral Services for over 90 years, and are proud to provide excellent levels of service, care and reassurance when it’s needed most. Over that time, they’ve learnt that in a difficult situation it’s the little things that count.

The East of England Co-op Ely Funeral branch is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with a free care line available every hour of every day on 0800 0744362.
