Independent retailer and property developer the East of England Co-op has awarded Great Blakenham based Elliston, Steady and Hawes the contract to build five new family homes on Cauldwell Hall Road, in Ipswich.

The development includes two four-bed homes and three three-bed homes which will be available to rent from spring 2018.

Nick Denny, Joint Chief Executive for the East of England Co-op, said: “We’re very pleased to be working with Elliston, Steady and Hawes on new homes for local families. As a local business, we’re very proud to be able to support other businesses from East Anglia, protecting and creating jobs for local people.”

This is the third rental housing scheme in the region developed and funded by the East of England Co-op in the last 12 months with sites in Harwich and Colchester completed. Two further sites in Suffolk are planned in Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich and New Street in Woodbridge for 2018.

Elliston, Steady and Hawes were founded over 60 years ago, constructing houses in East Anglia. Today they have a wide portfolio ranging from residential and commercial construction, to specialist construction projects; they also have a purpose built joinery shop and aluminium division.

Mark Phillips, Director at Elliston, Steady and Hawes, said: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with the East of England Co-op to provide these new homes.

“Many of the team have been with the company for more than 20 years and having the support of another local business gives us job security and allows us to expand. Working on local contracts is always special. It’s nice to know you’re creating something for your community to benefit from – in this case, homes for local families.”
