Community thanked as refurbished supermarket reopens its doors
A newly revamped supermarket in Norfolk has officially reopened following a £950,000 refurbishment.
The East of England Co-op supermarket in The Street, Long Stratton, underwent an extensive refit with works including improvements to the lobby and Subway concession and installing new lower-power refrigeration and lighting to reduce the business’ environmental impact.
To mark the supermarket’s new look, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday 10th September and customers are invited to a special celebration day on Thursday 12th September.
From 9am until 1pm, customers could enjoy a 10% discount on purchases made at the supermarket, product tastings from Gnaw chocolate and the Norfolk Brewhouse as well as giveaways of mini cupcakes from Wendy’s House Cakes while listening to live music.
Sally Chicken, President of the East of England Co-op, said: “We are delighted to have undertaken such a significant investment in the Long Stratton branch.
“We are grateful to our customers for their patience while the refurbishment works were carried out as part of our ongoing investment in our food stores.
“We are confident that the improvements will enhance the service we already provide to the community.”
Ms Chicken, along with fellow Board members Belinda Bulsing and Richard Youngs, cut the ribbon to declare the supermarket reopen.
Pupils from Manor Field Infant and Nursery School were invited to the supermarket’s reopening after the East of England Co-op donated money for the repainting of its playground.
The youngsters helped get the store ready by stocking shelves and even had a go on the tills.
At Thursday’s celebration, members of the community were treated to a free breakfast bap made using Taste of Suffolk, Havensfield Eggs, Stokes sauces and Linzers rolls – all local producers which are stocked by the Co-op.
The first 50 customers through the door received a golden envelope with prizes ranging from store vouchers for the East of England Co-op, kitchen gadgets and a 32” TV.
The East of England Co-op supermarket in Long Stratton is open Monday to Friday from 7am-10pm and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
