Secured by Design (SBD) is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI), a police owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK, including work with the national alarm inspectorate bodies and trade organisations for the security industry – the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB), the Fire and Security Association (FSA) and the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).
SBD developed a product based accreditation scheme over 20 years ago – the Police Preferred Specification, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs) now have the opportunity to become members of SBD. To find out more on the technical and procedural requirements, visit https://www.policesecuritysystems.com/sbd-arcs.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
