Established in 1872, Adnams is best known for its beer brewed in picturesque Southwold, but it also owns and runs pubs and hotels, makes handcrafted spirits and operates Cellar & Kitchen stores as well.

The business was originally founded by George and Ernest Adnams, with the help of their father. Today, under the watchful eye of current chairman Jonathan Adnams, the company continues to brew a distinctive range of authentic beers, with product names and packaging inspired by the beautiful Suffolk coastline.

Adnams has become one of the most respected brewers in the country and it is well known for both its strong environmental ethos and its commitment to working closely with local farmers and brewers. Our customers have long had the opportunity to buy Adnams’ bottled beers as part of our Sourced Locally range and they are amongst our best selling products.

We stock a wide selection of the brewer’s most renowned ales in bottles, cans and even mini casks. This includes Lighthouse, a classic amber beer with a crisp refreshing taste, Ghost Ship, a pale ale with a good assertive bitterness, and one of the brewers most beloved beers, Adnams Broadside, a dark, ruby red beer which is rich in fruitcake aromas.

There’s also plenty to offer those who prefer wines or spirits to ales, from sparkling brut and rosé wines to vodka made with 100% East Anglian malted barley.

A very special brew

As a result of our long standing relationship we were lucky enough to receive an extra special present from the master brewer at Adnams, in the form of two new beers created exclusively for our Sourced Locally range. This has made us one of only two retailers in the UK to stock an own-label ale from the Suffolk brewer.

Developed by Adnams’ master brewer Belinda Jennings, the two exclusive ales are a 4.2% Golden Ale with a crisp, clean taste and aromas of mango, passionfruit and grapefruit, and a 4.5% Traditional Pale Ale, which is more malty and has the aromas of green, grassy British hops.

John Lynsdale of Adnams said: “This is a really natural partnership between two trusted businesses who together share a rich heritage, a commitment to serving local communities and a passion for the amazing food and drink in our region. We’re also companies that love to innovate and it has been a pleasure to create these two wonderful ales which we are sure East of England Co-op customers will love.”

You can find a selection of Adnams ales, wines and spirits in our Food stores across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
