Our developments

At the East of England Co-op, we strive to develop improved environments, much needed homes and employment opportunities for local communities.

We're proud to work with local companies, including architects, planners, project managers and contractors to help deliver our developments, helping to secure jobs and plough money back into the local economy.

Whether a residential or commercial scheme, we follow a core set of values including:

  • Being open and transparent
  • Being fair and honest
  • Showing integrity
  • To listen, care and be supportive
  • To create homes not houses - our residential properties are architect designed, making them attractive and homely.

Our latest development

In July 2023 we completed work on five new properties in Brightlingsea, providing much needed living space for local people.

The two-bedroom flats have been built above our Station Road store in the town, and are available to let through the Managing Agent, Fenn Wright.

Mike Scarlett, Head of Building Services at East of England Co-op, said: “This exciting project has been a real collaborative effort with a local contractor, Forum Contracts, who have done a fantastic job of transforming the space above our Station Road store in to modern and stylish flats, as well as with the refurbishment of our Food store earlier this year”.

Woodbridge Road, Ipswich

Three spacious, three-bedroom modern family homes just outside Ipswich are complete and fully let.

Work on the homes, which are built to a high standard with garages, large gardens and high specification internal finishes, began in July 2020 and was completed in May 2021. The build was completed quickly and efficiently whilst complying with strict Covid-19 restrictions.

The development was constructed by local, Great Blakenham based contractors, Elliston Steady and Hawes. Each of the properties features en-suite bathrooms to the master bedrooms as well as an additional family bathroom, and a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living space to the ground floor.

East of England Co-op Joint Chief Executive, Nick Denny said: “We’re really pleased to have completed this latest project in just 10 months.

“Elliston, Steady and Hawes have done a fantastic job constructing the homes to an incredibly high standard whilst complying to Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions.

“This latest development is an important part of our work to develop a selection of the sites we own into high quality, much-needed places to live. We are proud to be adding these family homes to our portfolio.”

Residential development - 111-115 Newland Street, Witham

We're pleased to confirm our planning appeal has been granted at the above, where the inspector found the proposed development to be in keeping with the local plan, housing strategy, suitable accommodation standards and sympathetic to the local conservation and listed building status of the surrounding properties and frontage:

  • Planning consent has been granted for a residential development to utilise and regenerate this prominent section of Witham's high street
  • Development plans comprise four homes and three flats built to high standard together with removal of old redundant outbuildings
  • Renewed street elevation will be more subdued than existing building frontages in Newland Street, making use of traditional forms and materials, creating a restrained but appropriate new architectural statement which would enhance the visual qualities of the surroundings.

Long Wyre Street, Colchester

As a local business we're proud to have invested over £5.5million into the redevelopment of Long Wyre Street, working with local contractors and consultants to provide new homes and leisure facilities.

Having awarded the contract to Manningtree based Rose Builders, the 60,000 sq. ft. former department store has been transformed - with 24 flats fully let and the first of five retail units open - Romano Lounge.

Foundation House, Long Wyre Street

This selection of high-quality suites and one and two-bedroom apartments are part of our £5.5 million Long Wyre Street redevelopment in the heart of Colchester.

These stylish, urban homes are all fitted with modern kitchens and bathrooms, some with en-suites. A selection of the apartments also have private balconies and views across Colchester's historic town centre.

The building has been named Foundation House after the historic foundation stone which has been preserved and will remain at the site.

The apartments have now all been let, however you can still register your interest with lettings agents Fenn Wright on 01206 764499 or email lettings@fennwright.co.uk and you'll be contacted should an apartment become available..

“We’ve worked with Elliston, Steady and Hawes on a number of local developments, who, despite the various restrictions and guidelines, have completed these new homes to an incredibly high-standing.

“This development will make a valuable addition to our investment property portfolio, whilst providing high quality family homes to rent.”
