Burial or Cremation

Choosing whether you wish to be buried or cremated may seem like a daunting decision, but many beautiful locations can provide a fitting resting place. We are very happy to discuss them with you in detail.

Burials

If you're considering burial, there are many beautiful cemeteries and churchyards across our region.

We can provide guidance on selecting a burial plot, including location, availability, and any local regulations that may impact your decision. If you decide to purchase or reserve a plot, we can advise you on contacting local authorities and whether neighbouring plots are available for reservation. We have found this can be comforting when making decisions with partners or siblings. We can also assist you in arranging a burial at an existing family plot.

Many people are also now opting for green funerals. If you wish to find out more, please speak to one of our Funeral Arrangers.

Cremations

If you'd like to arrange a cremation, we will talk through all your options with you.

You can choose to have a short service known as a committal at the crematorium itself, or a longer service elsewhere, such as a nearby church or Service Hall. Our Funeral Arrangers have a good understanding of the local area, so we will be able to assist you in these important decisions.

When arranging a cremation, you'll be asked what you would like to happen with your loved one's cremated remains. This can be a very important, personal decision, so take your time to think it through and discuss it with your family.

Most crematoria will retain your loved one’s remains for a month, giving you time to make your decision. If you're still uncertain after that time, we can store the ashes at your local funeral branch until you're ready for them.

Many people choose to have their loved one's cremated remains scattered or interred in the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance. This is a special area set aside for the final resting place of cremated remains.

You could also choose to scatter your loved one’s ashes in a special location that holds importance for you. We can provide scatter tubes to make the scattering of your their ashes as easy as possible, and help ensure that the location in which you choose to scatter the ashes, is not affected by restrictions such as needing the landowner's permission.
