East of England Co-op announces opening date for refurbished West Mersea Food store
The East of England Co-op has announced its West Mersea Food store will reopen on Wednesday 25 March, following its involvement in the retailer’s ongoing refurbishment programme.
As part of the refurbishment, part of the store has been transformed into a bookable space for local charities to provide support sessions and services. On the reopening day this space will be occupied by local charities and community groups, who will be sharing information about how they support their local community.
Once open, the store will feature an extended range of food-to-go services and a perfectly chilled beer and wine section as well as improvements to the car park.
To ensure the store is as energy efficient as possible, the retailer has made improvements to the refrigeration and lighting, as well as installing solar panels to the roof of the Food store. These sustainability improvements have seen reductions in energy consumption by as much as 55% in other recently opened and refurbished East of England Co-op Food stores.
Chief Executive Officer for the East of England Co-op, Andy Rigby said: “We’re excited to reopen the doors to our West Mersea Food store on Wednesday 25 March and showcasing our refreshed offering to our members and customers on Mersea Island.
“We’re also delighted to welcome local charities including some of our supported charities from our Local Giving campaigns in West Mersea. Providing a space for local charities to fundraise and host essential services is a feature we’re proud to have introduced to our West Mersea Food store.”
The East of England Co-op is owned by its members and is driven by its commitment to supporting local communities. The retailer has donated over £1 million to good causes in East Anglia over the last three years.
