Hot Chocolate Spoons
Serves: 8
Difficulty: Easy
Prep & Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 1 hr (to set)
Ingredients:
- 250g Co-op Irresistible Chocolate for Change 45% Cocoa Dark Milk Chocolate
- 50 g Co-op Irresistible Fairtrade Dark Chocolate 85%
- 8 wooden spoons
- Co-op Home Baking Pink & White Marshmallows or crushed Co-op Candy Canes.
Instructions:
1. Melt Chocolate
Gently melt the milk chocolate and dark chocolate together in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water or in short bursts in the microwave, stirring until completely smooth.
2. Spoon into Moulds
Carefully spoon the melted chocolate mixture into small silicone moulds, or directly onto the bowls of the wooden/plastic spoons, ensuring each spoon is well-coated.
3. Decorate
Immediately sprinkle the tops of the chocolate spoons with your chosen decorations, such as mini marshmallows or crushed candy canes.
4. Chill
Place the chocolate spoons in the refrigerator and chill for about 1 hour, or until they are completely solid and firm.
5.Serve
To enjoy, simply place one chocolate spoon into a mug of hot milk and stir until the chocolate has fully melted, creating a delicious hot chocolate drink.
Tips
- When using a microwave, melt the chocolate in short bursts (30 seconds at a time) and stir thoroughly between each burst. Chocolate can easily scorch if microwaved for too long, which will make it grainy.
- If you are filling a silicone mould or small cup, ensure the spoon handles are propped up so that the chocolate surface remains level while setting. You can use a kitchen towel or a small box flap to keep the handles elevated.
- Stir in a few drops of peppermint extract or vanilla extract to the melted chocolate before pouring, for an extra layer of flavour.
- Store the finished hot chocolate spoons in an airtight container in a cool, dry place (or the fridge, if preferred) for up to two weeks.
