Futurestars Kit Amnesty launched
The East of England Co-op have today launched a new partnership with local UK registered charity Futurestars, helping to collect sports clothing and equipment for schools in Togo, West Africa.
From the 1 April, the East of England Co-op will be collecting sports kit and equipment in all their 122 food stores across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex.
The items, which must be clean and in good working order, will be worn and used by children taking part in Futurestars exciting education-through-sports programme in West Africa. Each week 4,000 children benefit from free-coaching sessions in football, netball, athletics and PE, helping increase pupil engagement and attendance at school.
Roger Grosvenor, Joint Chief Executive for the East of England Co-op, said: “We’re really hoping our members, customers, local schools, sports clubs and communities will get behind the scheme.
“It’s a great opportunity to recycle unwanted sports clothing and kit that we no longer want or need, whilst supporting a fantastic local charity and providing young people with opportunities and education.”
Simon Milton, Director at Futurestars, said: “We are delighted that the East of England Co-op are supporting the Futurestars Charity with our Kit Amnesty for 2019. Our first Kit Amnesty was very well supported, and we shipped thousands of pieces of kit and equipment to Ghana in October 2018.
“The Amnesty for 2019 will see the kit and equipment delivered to Togo in September to support our schools and project in Lomé. All the kit donated will be passed on to underprivileged children within our charity project and used for many years to come.”
Suggested items for donation include sports clothing, boots, trainers and kit bags, as well as sporting equipment, such as balls, bibs, cones and training aids.
If people wish to make a large donation, please speak to your local East of England Co-op store so that they can arrange receipt and storage of your items.
