  • Who will be providing my funeral?

    Your funeral will be carried out by East of England Co-op Funeral Services, part of the independent East of England Co-operative Society.

  • Which services will be covered by my Funeral Plan?

    All our Funeral Plans are guaranteed to cover the costs of the funeral services outlined in the brochure, there will be nothing more to pay, no matter how much prices rise. If you arrange a Bespoke Plan, you can choose the services you want the Plan to cover and record the price and details on your Application Form. If you choose a Bespoke Plan that excludes third party disbursements, these costs will be payable at the time of the funeral.

  • Will there be anything else to pay at the time of the funeral?

    No, there will be nothing more to pay for the services included in your Plan. If you choose a burial, refer to Question 15 which contains important information on exclusive rights to grave or plot costs.

    At the time of the funeral any requests for additional services or personal touches not included in your Plan will need to be paid for e.g. floral displays, service sheets, newspaper announcements or if the person arranging the funeral wants it to take place during a weekend or on a Bank Holiday.

  • Are there any age restrictions on purchasing a Pre-paid Funeral Plan?

    Our Plans are available to purchase by anyone aged 18 or over. You can buy a Plan on behalf of anyone regardless of their age.

  • Do I need a medical to buy a Funeral Plan?

    No, there is no medical restriction on taking out a Funeral Plan; we guarantee we will accept you – no matter what your age or state of health.

  • Can I take a Funeral Plan out for somebody else?

    Yes, all of our Plans and payment options allow you to buy a Plan for someone else. If you do this, the ‘Plan Purchaser’ will receive all of the correspondence, have the rights to the Plan and be responsible for paying for it.

  • Can I buy one Funeral Plan for the funeral of either myself or my partner?

    Yes, two ‘Plan Holders’ can be named on the Application Form, and the Plan can be used for the funeral of either of the ‘Plan Holders’.The only condition is that the ‘Plan Purchaser’ (the person who is paying for the Plan) has to be one of the two Plan holders.

     

  • How will the person arranging my funeral know what to do when the time comes?

    When you purchase a Plan, you will receive a certificate (and a copy) that provides details of the Plan you have purchased. The certificate provides details of our 24 hour careline 0800 0744362. You should keep your certificate safe and give a copy to the person who is most likely to arrange your funeral. You will also receive an ‘I have a Plan’ card that details the number to call; it is recommended that you keep this in your wallet or purse.

  • Can I include my personal requests in my Funeral Plan? (excludes Without Ceremony Plan)

    Yes, our Plans are designed to record your personal requests such as where you would like the funeral service to take place, your choice of music, where to send any charitable donations and where cremated remains, known as ashes, should be laid to rest. At the time of the funeral, the Funeral Arranger and the person arranging the funeral will be provided with details of all of your requests and wishes. We will work closely with the person arranging the funeral to make sure you are remembered in the way you want to be.

  • What personal touches can be arranged at the time of the funeral? (excludes Without Ceremony Plan)

    The person arranging the funeral may wish to include further services such as floral displays, additional limousines, newspaper notices, burial or interment of cremated remains which are not included in the costs of your Plan. Your Funeral Arranger can help to organise these additional services, they will need to be paid for at the time of the funeral.

  • How can I pay for my Funeral Plan?

    There is a choice of payment options. A Plan can be paid for in full with a single one-off payment, or you can choose to spread the cost by selecting to pay in convenient affordable instalments. Payments can be made by cash, cheque or direct debit and can be paid over a set period of 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 or 120 months. An arrangement fee is payable if you choose to pay by instalments of 24 months or more.

  • How can I purchase a Funeral Plan?

    You can post your completed application form to East of England Co-op Funeral Services, 213a High Street, Kelvedon, Colchester CO5 9JD.

    Alternatively, you can contact your local East of England Co-op Funeral branch, where the team can help you complete the application form or you can purchase online at www.eastofengland.coop/funerals.

  • What happens if the Plan holder (or nominee) dies before all Plan instalments have been paid?

    If this happens, the person arranging the funeral has two options:

    • They can either settle the balance of outstanding payments allowing the funeral to go ahead as planned, at the price you reserved when you took out your Plan – this is usually the most economical option.
    • Alternatively, we can cancel your Plan and refund all your payments less an administration fee of £250.
  • What happens if I stop paying for my Plan?

    If you are paying by instalments over a set period and you miss a payment, you have a 30 day period to make the overdue payment and keep your Plan in place. If the overdue payment is not received, we will cancel the Plan and return all the money you have paid us less an administration fee of £250.

  • If I arrange a Funeral Plan for burial, do I also need to purchase a grave or plot?

    Yes, if you chose a burial you will need to purchase exclusive rights to a grave or plot. Your Funeral Arranger can give you information on the cost and availability of graves in your local area. Not all Local Authorities, churchyards or cemeteries allow graves or plots to be purchased in advance.

  • What happens if I move?

    If you move away we can appoint another quality Funeral Service at no extra cost, within Great Britain or Northern Ireland. If you move overseas, we recommend you to take out insurance to cover the costs of repatriation, should you die abroad. We can assist with arranging repatriation although the cost for this service is not included in any of our Plans.

  • Can I change my mind and cancel my Plan?

    Yes, you can cancel your Plan within 30 days from the date of purchase and we will refund all your payments. If you cancel after 30 days, we will charge you an administration fee of £250.

  • Can I change my Plan or arrangements?

    Yes, you can contact us to amend or upgrade to another Plan at any time, however you will need to pay for any additional services you request. There is no administration charge for making amendments.

  • What if East of England Co-op goes out of business? Is my money safe?

    Yes, your money is safe. Your Funeral Plan is underwritten by Royal London Group (RLG) a mutual that has served its members since 1861, so your money is always independently safeguarded. All Funeral Plan monies paid (which excludes £250 administration fee) to the East of England Co-operative Society will be invested in individual whole-of-life insurance policies between the East of England Co-operative Society and Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited. Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the PRA.

  • What happens if I have a dispute with the East of England Co-op Funeral Services?

    The East of England Co-operative Society is a registered provider with the Funeral Planning Authority (FPA) who also have arrangements for resolving disputes between customers and FPA registered providers.   • What happens once I complete my Funeral Plan purchase?

    You will be asked if you wish to receive your documentation by post or by email. We will give you a copy of your application form, to keep for reference; this contains details of the full terms and conditions of your Plan and your personal requests

    Separately we will send you:

    • A covering letter with your Plan number
    • An additional copy of your application form, to keep for reference; this contains details of the full terms and conditions of your Plan and your personal requests

    • An ‘I have a Plan’ card
  • Do I earn dividend points on Funeral Pre-paid Plan purchases?

    Yes. Dividend points are earned on qualifying goods and services only. In our pre-paid Funeral Plans disbursements paid on your behalf, including fees for ministers, doctors and the crematorium, do not qualify for dividend.

  • Do I earn dividend points on Memorial voucher purchases?

    Yes. Dividend points are earned on qualifying goods and services.

  • When do I receive dividend points?

    Once you have paid in full for your Funeral Plan, the qualifying dividend points will be added to your membership account. Dividend is payable on transactions made during our previous financial year.

  • How many dividend points will I earn?

    You will receive 10 points for every qualifying £1 spent. To find out the current value of qualifying spend for your chosen Funeral Plan, ask at your local funeral branch or call the Funeral Plan advice line on 0800 0744361.
