Sam Fairs and the team at Hillfarm Oils have been producing cold pressed rapeseed oil, mayonnaise and hand lotions for the East of England Co-op since 2014.

Hillfarm’s ethos is to produce good, honest products of the highest quality in a sustainable way that cares for the environment in which we all live. Based at Hill Farm in Heveningham Suffolk, Hillfarm is a true family business with three generations involved in farming and producing the oil.

Their dedication to supporting the local environment saw Hillfarm awarded a silver accreditation in the Suffolk Carbon Charter. “All the seed for Hillfarm Oils is grown on our farm so we know exactly what goes into its production,” explained Sam. “We use our own home grown poultry manure for fertilising, our new bees pollinate our crops and our electricity comes from the PV panels on the roof.”

Looking to make the most of their award winning cold pressed rapeseed oil, Sam Fairs and Lawrence Frohn have diversified by creating a range of hand lotions, working with other local suppliers for its manufacture and packaging.

Lawrence Frohn, Hillfarm Business Manager explained: “We realised how soft our hands felt after working with the oil and so worked with a local cosmetics firm to incorporate it into a hand lotion and hand wash for everyday use.”

Low in saturated fats, high in essential fatty acids and rich in vitamin E Hillfarm Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is great for those looking for healthy cooking oil for frying, roasting and baking. It’s great taste makes it a superior oil for using in dressings, marinades and sauces.”

Keen to pass on their knowledge to others, Hillfarm take on a number of apprentices from local schools, as well as provide placements for University students. Supporters of the Suffolk Agricultural Association, Hillfarm provide activities to help educate both primary and high school students about the food and farming industry with school visits and work experience.
