HABITAT: MEDITERRANEAN

The Mediterranean monk seal is one of the world’s most endangered marine mammals, with fewer than 600 remaining in the wild.

Averaging 2.4m in length (nose to tail), the Mediterranean  monk seal is believed to weigh 250-300kg.

Monk seals are named for their folds of skin that resemble a monk’s robe. Adult males are black, while adult females are generally brown or grey.
