Norwich Pride Schools Week

In this section

We are delighted to be sponsoring and supporting the Norwich Pride Schools Week from Monday 27th June until Friday 1st July.

What is Schools Week?

The week is an opportunity for schools across Norfolk to join in the Norwich Pride celebrations during the school-term. The theme for 2022 is about protecting the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ students and staff.

Research by Just Like Us has shown that:

  • LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) young people are twice as likely to feel lonely and more than twice as likely to worry daily about their mental health than their non-LGBT+ peers.
  • One in five (18%) young people say they have received no positive messaging from their school about being LGBT+, which suggests that a significant number of schools are not taking action to meet Ofsted requirements of preventing anti-LGBT+ bullying.
  • LGBT+ young people were twice as likely as their non-LGBT peers (52% vs 27%) to have felt lonely and separated from the people they are closest to on a daily basis during lockdown.

Norwich Pride believe that schools should be places where every child and young person can be safe and be proud to be themselves. They are creating a range of resources with young LGBTQIA+ people that can be used in lessons and form-time activities

Get involved!

To show your support for Schools Week and encourage mindful colouring, Norwich Pride, with our support, are encouraging pupils and schools to download a black and white version of the poster created by KezyLou for pupils to mindfully colour in.
