We're proud to work with over 100 local producers

Our Sourced Locally initiative was founded back in 2007, bringing delicious food and drink produced right here on our doorstep to our customers.

Having continued to go from strength-to-strength, we're proud to work with over 100 local suppliers, stocking thousands of products on our shelves. From fruit and vegetables, jams and chutneys, to meat, fish, pies, fruit juices and wine.

We believe one key to the success of Sourced Locally is our unique relationship with each of our suppliers. We really care about our producers and want to make sure their businesses have a sustainable future.

Fair prices no matter how far afield

We believe in giving suppliers a fair price - whether they're part of our Sourced Locally initiative or a cocoa farmer in Ghana.

When trade is fair it has the potenial to improve the lives of the farmers and workers who grow our food.

We support sustainable fishing

With growing numbers of people enjoying fish as part of a healthy balanced diet, it's important that what we sell is sustainably caught and produced.

In 2011, the Co-op (who supply our Co-op branded products) joined the Sustainable Seafood Coalition.

All fresh farmed Co-op brand fish is also certified to at least one of three independent schemes which measure environmental standards or are farmed organically.

Supporting free-from

Whatever the reason, Free-From and Vegan foods are becoming a staple in many households across the world. And at the East of England Co-op we want to make sure when our customers pop to the shop, they can make those choices.

All our food stores across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex now stock Free-From products. If you visit one of our stores and can’t find a particular item, please let the store manager know and we will look into the possibility of stocking it.

Plus, we have introduced a fantastic new Vegan range to 21 one of stores across the region. We’re very excited to be working with The Brook, Clive’s, Vbites, Fry’s and Mama K Foods to bring our customers a great choice of Vegan foods. Plus, some are Gluten Free too!

Making healthier choices easier

We are committed to helping our members and customers make healthier choices. Traffic light labelling on the front of Co-op brand products makes it quick and easy to find nutritional information.

In April 2018, the Sugar Tax was introduced. Since then there has been a significant switch to low sugar drinks, showing that price is a key factor fpr consumers.

Since 2018, over 253 million teaspoons of sugar have been removed from Co-op branded desserts, ice cream, biscuits, morning goods and yoghurts. Plus, all Co-op branded products meet or exceed targets for salt reduction as set out by the Food Standards Agency.

Values and principles.

Why we do what we do

The first co-operatives back in the 1800s were formed as a different way of doing business that was better for everyone, driven by values and principles which still guide co-ops to this day.

Today, we're proud to be the largest independent retailer operating in the East of England. We provide food stores and specialist services, such as funerals, security, travel agents and petrol filling stations to communities across Essex. Norfolk. Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

With a significant property portfolio and other businesses, such as events and conference facilities and stonemasonry, we are a diverse and modern business.

As a co-operative business. we're run differently to other big organisations, putting our members first. Our focus has always been, and always will be, the local communities in our region.
