Introducing #EastTogether

Over the coming months, we'll be shining a spotlight on organisations and charities from across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, who have and continue to, dedicate their time and efforts to support their communities. 

Each fortnight, you'll have the opportunity to meet a new remarkable group of people and hear how they've supported those in need throughout this unprecedented year, as well as their plans for the future.

Episode One - Mandalay Wellbeing

In episode one we shine a spotlight on the fantastic Mandalay Wellbeing based in Great Yarmouth. Director Trevor Saunders tells us how they are delivering festive cheer to those in need, with their Christmas Stocking Campaign.

Episode Two - Level Two

Here we meet Level Two Project Manager Shez Hopkins, who tells us about how this important youth service is adapting its services to support young people in Felixstowe at this difficult time. 

Episode Three - EACH

This fortnight we meet Tracy Rennie from the East Anglia's Children's Hospice (EACH), who are having to adapt their vital services to ensure they can continue to provide support to the families who need it most.

Episode Four - Box of Hope

In episode four we meet a group of volunteers providing much needed food parcels to families in need in their local community.

Episode Five - Debenham Shed

Join us for part one of our trip to the Debenham Shed, where we meet Jeannie Buckingham and Bernard Rose as they embark on expanding the Shed ready for the Summer. 

We look forward to visiting again later in the year to find out how the Shed has developed and the fantastic projects the community are working on. 

Episode Six - The Feed

Based in Norwich, The Feed is a social enterprise providing practical training and work experience to help prevent food hunger and homelessness. Here, Chief Executive Lucy Parish tells us more. 

Episode Seven - Together We Grow

Wayne Setford, Founder of Together We Grow CIC and the Big Friendly Gardeners tells us about this fantastic project which is helping to build communities and tackle isolation through organic horticulture. 

Episode Eight - St Edmunds Society

Providing practical training and work experience, St Edmunds Society gives young people an alternative learning experience, outside of mainstream school. Here we meet CEO Lorraine Bliss MBE who tells us more. 

Episode Nine - Suffolk Mind

Suffolk Mind, in conjuction with Keep Moving Suffolk, are launching a new storybook 'Sammy the Sea Squirt'. Here Ezra Hewing, head of education at Suffolk Mind, tells us more about the link between physical and mental wellbeing in children and plans to get a copy of 'Sammy the Sea Squirt' in the book bags of all 4 and 5 year olds this September. 

 

Episode Ten - Community Cares Fund

Our colleagues, Nikki and Helen, give an update on the Community Cares Fund and its future as the cornerstone of our support for our local communities. Watch to find out how to apply for donations, sponsorship and grants, of between £1,000 and £5,000, from your local Co-op. 

Episode Eleven - Beyond the Wall

Join us on a visit to the idyllic walled garden in Thornham Magna, home to Suffolk charity Beyond the Wall. 

Centre Manager Karen Bleay tells us more about the therapeutic horticultural work they provide for people with additional needs. 

Episode Twelve - Hamford Primary Litter Pick

This week we join pupils of Hamford Primary Academy on their community litter pick. Just one of the great initiatives the children have chosen to do to help keep their school and local community clean and tidy and make the world a better place for future generations. 

Episode Thirteen - Suffolk Libraries

Having to close their doors last March due to the pandemic, Suffolk Libraries needed to find a way to stay connected with the local community.

In this week's video we hear from Suffolk Libraries CEO Bruce Leeke, Art Exhibition Curator Ella Cairn and Library and Information Officer Kate Bacon, who tell us about how they digitised their services, stayed in contact with elderly and vulnerable members of the community, and how they are working with local artists to raise funds.

Episode Fourteen - Suffolk Family Carers

For this episode we head to Nowton Park, in Bury St Edmunds, to join a group of young carers as they take time out and join in activities organised by the Suffolk Family Carers volunteers. 

From baking bread and toasting marshmallows, to making their own bird feeders, days like this give the young carers the opportunity to have fun, be creative and importantly spend time with others who understand what it's like to care for a family member.

Episode Fifteen - Match of the Dads

Match of the Dads is a fantastic project which brings together dads from in and around Norwich to share advice and support one another, whilst enjoying a game of football. 

Meeting every Monday at the FDC, founder Paul Godfrey tells us what the group means to him and the vital support it provides. 

Episode Sixteen - Debenham Shed, Part Two

We take a trip back to Debenham, as we join in the opening day celebrations of the Men's Shed. 

Episode Seventeen - Norwich Homeless Support

In this episode we meet just two of the many organisations helping to tackle homelessness in Norwich. St Martins and Norwich Homeless Support are both doing amazing things to help people living on the streets get the support they need to get them back into a place that they can call home. 

Episode Eighteen - Zest, St Elizabeth Hospice

This week we meet some of the families and carers of young people in Suffolk, benefitting from the fantastic services provided by Zest at St Elizabeth Hospice. 

Zest is a specialist service, supporting young people on their journey as they transfer from children's services to adult services.

As East Together comes to a close, we take a look back at some of the incredible groups and organisations we've been privileged to feature in what has become a very special series and tribute to all of those who have and continue to do truly amazing things for our communities.
