Over 500 people eagerly awaited the opening of the new East of England Co-op Supermarket in Woodbridge today, with some queuing from 4.30am for the chance to win one of a hundred golden tickets filled with mystery prizes.

Local resident and customer Cindy said:"We were so impressed when we walked through the doors, it’s such an improvement and looks fantastic. There was a real buzz about the town this morning – people were queuing all the way up the Thoroughfare!

“The staff were friendly, smiley and cheerful and made everyone feel very welcome. We really liked the lay-out and the huge range on offer and we’ll definitely be visiting again soon.”

The much anticipated supermarket includes a Subway, newly renovated Post Office and in-store bakery, alongside a great range of fresh, frozen and local produce.

East of England Co-op members can support their local community every time they shop, through the in-store Token scheme. Members can currently choose to support one of three local groups; Just 42, Deben Community Farm and Friends of Woodbridge Library. The groups are changed every three months, with local charities and organisations able to nominate themselves for the chance to share in £1,000, on the retailer’s website.

Opening celebrations will continue throughout the weekend, with Halloween themed activities on Saturday 29 October, including free face painting and pumpkin carving.

The East of England Co-op Supermarket, Woodbridge is open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 9pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. To keep up to date with all the activity at the new store click here.
