Our Community Policy
As a member-owned Co-operative promoting Co-operative Values and Principles, community involvement forms a natural part of the way we like to do business.
A proportion of our profit is shared each year by our members in the form of Dividend. We also support a variety of community programmes across East Anglia.
To demonstrate this point, and to assist the Society in determining which areas our members wanted us to focus our community efforts on, an extensive survey was carried out across the region.
Following this democratic process, and having analysed the results, it was clearly demonstrated to us by our members that the following three community subject areas were of importance to them and these have now become our priorities:
Environmental Initiatives
Protecting our region which includes some of England’s most important – and threatened – natural habitats. We also focus on the local causes and consequences of a global threat – climate change.
Older People
Helping to improve the living conditions and social lifestyles of older people to enable them to enjoy their later life more fully.
Healthy Eating
Being a responsible retailer by addressing the growing problems caused by obesity and poor diets. We do this both through attention to the food we sell, and by helping educate about balanced, nutritious diets.
In addition to these three themes, the Society may consider investment in other forms of community activity particularly where there is a compelling co-operative case for doing so.
