East of England Co-op members set to receive a share of £2.2million in dividend

More than 143,000 members of the East of England Co-op are set to receive a share of £2.2million in dividend this year, following a year in which the local retailer achieved an impressive 30% increase in trading profits.

Announced at the East of England Co-op’s Annual Members’ Meeting, held on Saturday 18 May, as well hearing of the business’ success throughout 2018/19, members were also invited to take part in four workshops.

New for 2019, the East of England Co-op Funeral Services ran their ‘A Little Understanding’ workshop. Helping to tackle preconceptions of funerals and getting people talking about the often-taboo topic, the Funeral team will be taking the interactive workshop out into communities over the next year.

The East of England Co-op Community Engagement team also talked about four new campaigns, voted for by members, which they will be focussing on this year. They include helping combat food waste, improving understanding of food waste and recycling, supporting the challenges of an ageing population and creating a positive environment for young people to thrive.

Results of the election to the Board of Directors were also announced. This year saw 16 candidates stand for four available places on the Board. Maria Veronese and Mandy Errington were appointed as new directors, with Emma Howard and Richard Youngs winning re-election to the Board.

Members who are eligible for dividend will receive their payment by post through May/June. A full breakdown of the East of England Co-op’s audited figures is now available online at www.eastofengland.coop/Annualreport2019.
